About Alfred Health

Alfred Health provides the most comprehensive range of specialist medical and surgical services in Victoria. It has one of Australia’s busiest emergency and trauma centres, the state’s largest Intensive Care Unit and is home to multiple statewide services, including Victoria’s only heart and lung transplant service and the Victorian Adults Burn Service. In addition, we are home to Australia’s largest centralised clinical trial portfolio with more than 300 open trials across 19 disease disciplines.

Alfred Health is nationally and internationally recognised for progressive developments in health care, medical research and health care teaching, and is at the forefront of developments in clinical services to ensure the best possible patient care. As a major tertiary referral teaching hospital, we recognise the importance of continuing to teach, research and innovate in order to constantly improve care and develop leaders in healthcare.

About Alfred Health Pharmacy Department

Our Pharmacy Department is comprised of more than 300 staff members who are focused on delivering the highest quality medication management for our patients. We strive to provide world-class care to patients and support the future of healthcare through strong programs in education and research.

About Alfred Pharmacy Learning and Development Hub

As well as being responsible for the development of our own staff, we are committed to sharing our pharmacy expertise with pharmacists external to Alfred Health through the launch of our new Pharmacy Learning and Development Hub.  Our Learning and Development Hub will offer selected education programs to motivated pharmacists across Australia and beyond from early 2023, with the focal aim of optimising medication management on a national and international scale.

Our education programs are managed by our experienced team of Workforce and Development pharmacists, many of whom have undergone structured developmental programs or postgraduate studies to support their roles as pharmacy educators.

About Our Programs

Combined clinical and education expertise

We have paired the expertise of practicing clinicians with that of skilled pharmacist educators to develop programs that provide learners with cutting edge clinical skills and knowledge, while enhancing the learner experience through the integration of evidence-based learning principles.

Evidence-Based Learning Principles

As mentioned above, our pharmacy education programs integrate key evidence-based learning principles with the primary aim of creating learners that are critical thinkers and therapeutic problem solvers. Our programs aim to empower learners to develop and implement sound processes and patient-centred clinical skills.

Flexible and ‘Hands-On’ experience

Our programs are designed to fit in with the competing demands of busy pharmacists by offering a range of registration options, allowing the learning experience to be tailored to meet individual needs. All learners will complete flexible self-directed e-Learning modules, with the option of enhancing their learning experience through the addition of face-to-face interactive workshops and a ‘hands-on’ experiential placement at Alfred Health.
